Orphie & Magus

Character Description

Orphie Magnusson is a young soldier serving in the New Eridu Defense Force's Obsidian Division, Obol Squad, who shares an extraordinary bond with her partner Magus—an Intelligent Construct in gun form who was once the squad's human captain before being gravely injured during the fall of the old capital and transferring her consciousness into a weapon to survive. Despite Magus's hot-tempered, impulsive personality and strict public insistence on soldierly perfection—disapproving of Orphie's love for fancy desserts, cute animals, and decorative toys as signs of softness—she secretly follows online "parenting" advice and pretends to enter "sleep mode" to turn a blind eye to her partner's less-than-perfect behavior. Orphie in turn does everything she can to meet her captain's expectations, aspiring to become a strong, independent soldier like Magus once was, while quietly keeping her in check in ways the older weapon barely notices. Their relationship, somewhere between mother-daughter and commander-subordinate, makes Orphie's obliviousness a constant source of hidden grief for Magus, though nothing escapes the keen eyes of those who've come to know these two reflections sharing vulnerabilities—one hiding hers well, the other completely unaware she's even doing it.
